Internal corporate transfer

An internal corporate transfer is a process where an employee moves from one position or department within a company to another position or branch that is also part of the same organization. This process can take place both nationally and internationally when the company has offices in different countries. The transfer is a key tool for talent management and effective resource distribution within the company, providing opportunities for employees' professional development and adapting to the dynamic needs of the business. This approach helps the organization not only meet its strategic goals but also retain valuable knowledge, skills, and experience within the company.
According to the Law on Labor Migration and Labor Mobility, an internal corporate transfer has a special legal meaning when it involves the temporary relocation of a foreign worker from a third country. In such cases, it refers to the transfer of a worker or intern from a company with its headquarters or registered office outside the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria to its branch or to a company belonging to the same group within the territory of Bulgaria. The primary purpose of this transfer can be to fulfill job duties or training, while the worker retains their employment contract with the enterprise from the third country.
A work permit for internal corporate transfer is issued for a period of one year, with the possibility of renewal under certain conditions, regulated by Article 33p of the Foreigners in the Republic of Bulgaria Act. When the employment contract has a shorter duration, the permit is issued for the term of the contract. The validity of the permit can be extended for up to three years for managers and specialists and up to one year for employees or interns.
This mechanism not only opens doors for international mobility but also provides companies the opportunity to use their global resources in the most efficient way. Internal corporate transfers contribute to the sharing of experience and best practices between the company's offices in different countries, while offering employees unique opportunities for professional development in new and challenging environments.
